Andiron started working with Kablamo in 2017 with an intent to reflect the core values that underpinned the business. The goal was positioning Kablamo at the forefront of conversations that were at the helm of industry innovation, building momentum and inbound interest for both media and talent attraction.

Co-leadership in focus

Andiron worked with founder Allan Waddell from the initial engagement.

As Kablamo’s visionary, we drew on his expertise, industry experience and dynamic personality to position him as a trailblazer and thought leader around AI, tech and regulation.

When Angus Dorney joined as co-CEO 18 months later, Andiron set in motion building a unique leadership profile, this time around his passion for organisational culture, leadership and team development.

At the confluence of creativity, technology, culture and business, Kablamo was different from other tech consultancy firms. Recognising that in order to be market leaders they needed to attract the best talent in the world, Andiron and Kablamo developed a strategy that showcased Kablamo’s dedication to creating the best workplace culture in the industry.

Emerging AI

With companies and industries using and investing in emerging AI in the early 2020s, there was a growing awareness of both its reach and limitations as well as a lack of experts who could speak about it. Dynamic and plain-spoken, Andiron recognised Allan could become an authority on the role of AI and its implications for the future.

Building Allan’s reputation through media training and familiarisation, while driving high impact editorial through industry and mainstream channels, Allan’s profile has matured as a go-to exponent of AI and its use.

University collaboration

Kablamo is dedicated to fostering strong academic links, through affiliations, internships and collaboration. In partnership with UNSW, Andiron organised a collaborative discussion with Kablamo on a panel with the UNSW Business School exploring how the evolving tech landscape is challenging the dominance of large enterprise IT providers.

“A recent roundtable of several leading C-Level IT executives organised by UNSW Business School – and with the senior management of data science and communications consultancy Andiron and cloud services business Kablamo – explored the challenges companies have when they engage with large enterprise IT consultancies, including poor communication and not having a clear picture of the company’s business goals.” BusinessThink UNSW Business School

This initiative developed into a white paper (Rise of the Mammal: The Existential Threat Facing Traditional Consultancies), event material and a digital video which was amplified across social channels in order to drive home the message across multiple channels, including authorship on technology trade publications.

Women in tech

A healthy, vibrant and collaborative workplace culture plays a significant role in the attraction and retention of talent, a fact that’s an essential part of the Kablamo DNA. With a strong desire to highlight the importance of the role that women take in the tech industry, Andiron helped Kablamo shine a spotlight on this neglected topic.

Showcasing the depth of female talent within Kablamo has become an important stream for their “pull” recruitment strategy. Attracting and retaining talent in an industry renowned for its employee churn rate, Andiron has positioned Kablamo as a champion of women in tech.

Creating Firestory, a product within a brand

When our screens were filled with the horror of the unfolding 2019/2020 Australian bushfires Kablamo was compelled to take action. Allan and Angus believed passionately that tech could be used to change the world for good and so, as people lost their lives and the country burned, their team sought to find ways they could help.

Existing technology was pushed to the limits. Inspired by listening to bushfire first responders and state fire agencies across the country, Firestory was created by applying design-led problem solving, AI, machine learning and software development into a product that takes almost limitless amounts of data and turns it into decision-making intelligence.

Raising the profile of Angus and the Firestory team, Andiron helped develop Firestory into a standalone entity within two years. Helping Firestory secure $500k in grants through editorial, events and award entries and garnering global recognition for a product that works anywhere, Firestory was a world-first implementation.

The science of storytelling

Andiron understands both the technical substance of Kablamo and the importance of the core stories within. Leveraging immersive journalistic techniques, Andiron built the profiles of the Kablamo team in a dynamic way, through recording interviews, driving editorial and shaping leadership development, creating a communications science around the story of Kablamo.
