Founded in 2015, Hivint is a cyber security consultancy business spanning technical, governance, risk and compliance services. With cyber and information security beginning to have a real and disruptive impact on businesses and organisations, Hivint provided high-quality advisory services to businesses facing the challenges and threats of increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks.

Cultivating radical collaboration

With cyber security a growing concern globally, Hivint’s founders, Nick Ellsmore and Craig Searle, recognised an opportunity for fast growth in the Asia Pacific region, with its high volume of professional services firms and strong government investment in the cyber security space.

But Hivint were different. Talking openly about how some cyber security firms played on concerns about the threats of digital attacks, called FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) in the industry, Hivint wanted to open the conversation up and offer an alternative.

Hivint’s cyber realism, approaching and talking about risk in a measured way, was getting noticed. One of their key differentiating strengths was Security Colony, a collaborative software-as-a-service platform allowing subscribers access to a library containing information about security management systems, policies, standards and templates.

The road to acquisition

With Hivint’s open source community values, knowledge sharing and free tools, Andiron saw an alignment with this mission focused brand. With the goal of using communications to increase the value of the business towards an acquisition target, engagement resourcing was on brand asset level positioning.

Working with Nick and Craig, Andiron helped increase Hivint’s exposure in both industry and mainstream media, building both the profile of Hivint and co-founder Nick through thought leadership.

In 2018, Hivint were acquired by Trustwave, the global cyber security arm of Singtel and its wholly owned subsidiary Optus, integrating Hivint’s advisory services into their security offerings.

“We are pleased to add Hivint’s capabilities, high-level expertise and community-driven approach to cyber security into Trustwave consulting services”

Arthur Wong, CEO of global cyber security at Singtel and CEO of Trustwave.
